On 13th April, Virjesh Upadhayay, General Secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh spoke to Labour Minister Santosh Gangawar and Labour Secretary Heeralal Samaria and raised strong objections regarding news about increasing the working hours from 8 hours to 12 hours under the Factory Act.
The Minister & Labour Secretary clarified to BMS that, the Government of India does not have any proposal to extend working hours from 8 to 12 hours by Amending Factories Act. We have not thought anything. Regarding the plight of the Un Organised workers and Contract workers during Lockdown period, The Minister said that the Ministry will take care of workers of Un Organised Sector during the Pandemic. It has issued orders to Labour Department to be alert and attend the complaints immediately. The Labour department is responding on workers issues. The Minister also promised that the Central Control Room will resolve the complaints/grievances on Salary related issues immediately.
The fact is that The Government of Rajasthan has changed working hours from 8-12 hours for a period of 3 months only as a Special case to meet out the demands of Lockdown period.
